Columbus Water Softener Repair
Water softeners rely on some fascinating science to function. They use an ion exchange process to replace mineral ions in your water with sodium ions. Even though that sounds like it would require a complex mechanism, it doesn’t. In fact, the most essential part of your water softener is its resin beads, which facilitate the ion exchange process. Those beads can and do wear out over time with regular use. Most of the time, the resin beads in your water softener will last between seven and 10 years. However, if your incoming water supply has high chlorine levels, they may wear out sooner.
Another common issue water softeners experience is a drop in water pressure. That can happen due to the very hard water you rely on your softener to treat. Sometimes, mineral deposits from the incoming water supply can restrict the flow of water into your system. That will lead to reduced output, which you’ll notice whenever you turn on a faucet. Typically, that will require a cleanout of your softener’s supply line to resolve the issue.

You should check a few things before you call our water softener repair service. The first thing to check is your water softener’s power cable. Make sure it’s plugged into its outlet securely. If so, check the circuit breaker powering the outlet. If your system has power, you should check to see if it has a salt bridge. That refers to a crust that prevents salt from reaching the water in your brine tank. You can check for it by pushing a broom handle into your system’s stored salt. You likely have a salt bridge if you encounter an obstruction before reaching the tank bottom. You can carefully break it up using the broom handle to resolve the issue.
